The Proposal
April 28, 2014
Long he stood by a lonely tree,
Waiting for his lady love.
‘long she came as the clock struck three,
He greeted her with a gracious bow.
With one trembling hand he held,
A lovely rose to mark his love.
And with sparkling love-filled eyes beheld,
Beauty that shamed the heavens above.
From the tree beside a bird did tweet
A hymn of love to court his pair.
‘twas a melody touching and sweet –
Love was in the air!
On the ground he placed a knee
And looked her in the eye.
He held the rose for her to see
And butterflies, in his heart did fly!
In a voice so full of love he said,
“Be my bride, my beloved!”
A tear of joy she happily shed,
And twice nodded the prettiest head.
With a smile she said “Yes, ofcourse!”
And took from him his mark of love.
She stood him up and smelled the rose,
And oh! It smelled of love!
From the tree beside a bird did tweet
A splendid song ‘bout the pair.
‘twas a melody touching and sweet –
Love was in the air!
